SmileMiles Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

A. Security, Passwords & Logins

  1. How secure is the SmileMiles site?

When you update your membership details, send SmileMail to family members, or subscribe, all of the information sent from you to us or from us to you is encrypted by 128-bit SSL technology (High-grade Encryption ). At the bottom of your browser window, you can see a little lock which is closed. It can look like that: FAQor FAQ. (View -> Status Bar must be enabled ). By clicking on the image of the lock, you can verify our security certificate information. On all of these pages you will also see the SecureCertificate logo.

Your data is your data. We have routine visibility only of that membership information which is absolutely necessary to enable you to enjoy the game and associated services, and to enable us to manage the site and its membership. Unless you decide to publish your child(ren)s web pages, no one has access to your data.

Your passwords are encrypted when you create them, and while stored on our web site.

In order to work with our web-site, the highest level of security can be set in your browser (Tools -> Internet Options... -> Security ), but cookies must be enabled (Tools -> Internet Options... -> Privacy ).

  2. What should I know about cookies?

A cookie is a small piece of text that is sent by our server and stored on your system. We use cookies like a security tags which identify you as a member while you move from page to page. This helps us to understand which areas of the site are useful to our members. We are not at all interested in how you spend your time on the site. We are interested in which areas are of most interest to the membership as a whole. We do not store your passwords or login names or your credit card numbers on your computer. The information which we store in your cookies is harmless and is valid only for one session between you and SmileMiles. If you wish, you can delete cookies from your cookies folder regularly. (e.g. My Computer -> Local Disk (C:) -> Documents and Settings -> Your Name -> Cookies ). Your Internet browser program will also have the option to remove all cookies.

  3. What happens if I click “Remember me” on the login page?

On our login page, if you tick the “Remember me” box, then we will store a cookie on your computer which remembers your login name and completes the login field when you next visit our site. We do NOT store your password on your computer.

  4. How does SmileMiles handle Passwords?

    • At SmileMiles we are passionate about privacy. Because many people including friends will already know your email address, your password is the key to your account. When you register, we send you your first password which is a random collection of characters. Once you log in using this password, you can change it to something more memorable. For Parents and Older Kids, the password is case-sensitive, so be careful.
    • If you forget your password, you can ask for another one to be sent to your email address.

  5. The SmileMiles password is too difficult to remember.

When you log in you can go to your Membership Details and change your password to something more memorable. Please remember that Parents’ and Older Kids’ passwords are case-sensitive (will remember upper and lower case characters).

  6. I registered for my child. I received a welcome email but my child did not.

This may be for a number of reasons:

    • You may have typed your child’s email address incorrectly. In this case, the email will not be delivered. Please check your own welcome email - which includes your child’s registration details - to ensure you typed the correct child email address. If you have accidentally input the incorrect email address, you can log in using your child’s details and enter the correct email address.

    • Our ISP may be having difficulty in delivering mail. In this case, your child's mail should eventually be delivered.
    • Your Child’s email box may be full, in which case the email will not be delivered. Once it is cleared your child can enter their email/login address on the SmileMiles Welcome Page, click on "Forgot Password" and a new one will be sent to them, allowing them to enter SmileMiles and play the game.

If you are still having difficulty then you can contact us through the “contact us” page and we can restart you. This will take time, however, and we may request additional proof of identity however, such as a telephone number to call you on.
